I smoked the yesterday released Por Larrañaga Picadores meanwhile four times. The three cigars I used for the review came from boxes with the following boxcodes: LAS JUN-14, ULE JUN 14, PUO JUN 14.

The cigar is a Hermosos No. 4 with the size: Ring 48, lenght 127mm.
The Picadores existed earlier times and was discontinued in the seventies. It had a smaller ring-size of 44 against the new one with 48.
The band is different from the others, used by the brand. It was used earlier times for cigars like the Por Larrañaga Dunhill Selection No. 32.

Die Zigarre ist eine Hermosos No. 4 mit den Dimensionen: Ring 48, Länge 127mm.
Die Picadores hatte früher existiert und wurde in den Siebzigern eingestellt. Diese hatte eine kleines Ringmass von 44 gegenüber der neuen mit 48.
Die Bauchbinde unterscheidet sich von anderen, die von dieser Marke benutzt werden. Diese wurde früher für Zigarren wie die Por Larrañaga Dunhill Selection No. 32 benutzt.

The cigar has a middle-brown, good quality wrapper. It’s pure flat an has no hits of oil. I punched the cigar. The drawing resistence was different with the three cigars, from a little bit to light to a little bit to hard. But during the smoke they went always to perfect. In the cold-draw it tastes like hay and figs.

Die Zigarre hat ein mittelbraunes Deckblatt von guter Qualität. Es ist matt und besitzt keine Öligkeit. Ich habe die Zigarre mit einer Bohrung versehen. Der Zugwiderstand war bei den drei Exemplaren unterschiedlich, von ein wenig zu leicht bis etwas zu hart. Aber während des Rauchens hat er sich immer perfekt entwickelt. Im Kaltzug schmeckt sie nach Heu und Feigen.

I take a soft-flame lighter to light the cigar. The first puff presents a full smoke with sweetness, some taste of barbecue and old dry walnut. There is some ammonia in the background. This could be expected because all boxdates are from JUN14.

Ich nehme ein Feuerzeug mit weicher Flamme. Der erste Zug präsentiert einen vollen Rauch mit Süsse, etwas Geschmack nach Grilladen und alter trockener Baumnuss. Es befindet sich etwas Ammoniak im Hintergrund. Dies war zu erwarten, da das Verpackungsdatum JUN14 ist.

In the first third, the smoke is sweet and the taste of coffee is present. The cigar closes at the end and is covered with ammonia. The tip of the tongue feels a light sharpness. The ash is gray-white and compact.

Im ersten Drittel ist der Rauch süss und der Geschmack von Kaffee ist präsent. Die Zigarre verschliesst sich gegen Ende und ist mit Ammoniak zugedeckt. Die Zungenspitze fühlt eine leichte Schärfe. Die Asche ist grau-weiss und kompakt.

Nut and coffee penetrate the ammonia falvour, who is responsible for some bitterness. It’s like a heaven full of clouds who opens a window and let the fine aromas passing through. A sweet and creamy smoke is now present. At the end of the second third it develops to a good cigar. It develops some inconsistent burning.

Nuss und Kaffee dringt durch das Ammoniak, welches für einige Bitterniss verantwortlich ist. Es ist wie ein Himmel voller Wolken bei dem sich ein Fenster öffnet und feine Aromen durchlässt. Ein süsser und cremiger Rauch ist nun präsent. Am Ende des zweiten Drittels entwickelt sie sich zu einer guten Zigarre. Sie entwickelt etwas Schiefbrand.

In the last third it gets stronger and a little bit bitter. The creamy and sweet smoke is always present. A hint of white pepper is noticable in the sweet flavour. Now woods are dominating. In spite of ammonia it’s a good smoke until the end.

Im letzten Drittel wird sie stärker und etwas bitter. Die Cremigkeit und Süsse des Rauchs ist immer präsent. Eine Spur von weissem Pfeffer ist wahrnehmbar im süssen Geschmack. Nun dominieren Hölzer. Trotz Ammoniak lässt sie sich gut bis zum Ende rauchen.

Summary:
This cigar is a very good smoke. For the price of CHF 10.- per cigar it’s absolutely fantastic! The cigar itself is light to medium in it’s strenght, but at the moment covered by ammonia. For three to six month out of the box, stored in a humidor, or after twelve to eighteen months stored in the box, it shold be good enjoyable . If the ammonia is gone you will have a good cigar for a reasonable price.

Zusammenfassung:
Diese Zigarre ist sehr gut. Der Preis von CHF 10.- pro Zigarre ist absolut hervorragend! Die Zigarre selbst ist leicht bis mittel in der Stärke, aber im Moment mit Ammoniak zugedeckt. Für drei bis sechs Monate ausserhalb der Kiste in einem Humidor gelagert, oder in der Kiste nach zwölf bis achtzehn Monaten, sollte sie gut geniessbar sein. Wenn das Ammoniak verzogen ist wird sie eine gute Zigarre zu einem vernünftigen Preis.
