Many of you know the small gas-cartridges, with 0.2 fluidounces of expensive gas, from S.T. Dupont, Paris. It’s used to fill the Ligne series lighters with gas and comes in different colours, depending on the lighter type. I own three Ligne 2 lighters. For them I need the gold coloured cartridge. Each time when I fill the lighter I have to spend CHF 5.–, which is quite a lot for 0.2 fluidounces. For this price you can buy a common gas-can to fill the lighter many times. Of course you should not take the cheapest Butane gas, it should be pure enough to burn without waste your lighter with soot and other things.

Because the Ligne 2 lighter have a special valve with a thread, to dock the gas cartridge on, you cannot use a common Butane gas-can. The most of them have a bunch of adaptors for different lighters but not for a S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 lighter. Mankind is allways very felxible when it come to optimize things. Therefore you can find many solutions in the internet, to compete against vendor ripp-off.

I bought an adaptor here. It’s made from brass and have a built-in valve. The adaptor can be screwed in like the original cartridge and builds then an interface to a common Butan gas-can. You can find there adaptors for Ligne 1 and Gatsby series too.

Another positive aspect is, you can fill up a half full lighter, without the loss of gas. If you would take the original cartridge you could fill the lighter of course too, but would loose the other half.

Viele kennen die kleinen Gaskartuschen, mit 5.9 Milliliter teurem Gas, von S.T. Dupont, Paris. Sie werden benutzt um die Feuerzeuge der Ligne Serie mit Gas zu befüllen und kommen, abhängig vom Feuerzeugtyp, in verschiedenen Farben daher. Ich habe drei Ligne 2 Feuerzeuge. Für diese benötige ich die goldene Kartusche. Jedes mal, wenn ich ein Feuerzeug fülle muss ich CHF 5.– ausgeben, was relativ viel Geld ist, für nur 5.9 Mililiter. Dafür kann man sich schon eine Gaskartusche kaufen, mit welcher man das Feuerzeug viele male befüllen kann. Sicher sollte man nicht das günstigste Butan-Gas nehmen. Es sollte rein genug sein, um das Feuerzeug nicht mit Russ und anderen Dingen zu verschmutzen.

Weil die Ligne 2 Feuerzeuge spezielle Ventile mit einem Gewinde haben, um die Gaskartusche anzuschliessen, können keine einfachen Butan-Gaskartuschen benutzt werden. Diese haben wohl eine Menge mitgelieferter Konverter, doch keinen für ein S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 Feuerzeug. Die Menschheit ist immer sehr flexibel, wenn es darum geht Dinge zu optimieren. Darum kann man viele Lösungen im Internet finden, die Hersteller-Abzocke bekämpfen.

Ich habe hier einen Adapter gekauft. Dieser ist aus Messing gefertigt und hat ein eingebautes Ventil. Der Adapter kann wie die original Kartusche hineingeschraubt werden und bildet dann eine Schnittstelle zu einer gewöhnlichen Butan-Gaskartusche. Man findet dort auch Adapter für die Ligne 1 und Gatsby Serie.

Ein anderer positiver Aspekt ist, man kann ein halbvolles Feuerzeug, ohne den Verlust von Gas, füllen. Wenn man die original Kartusche nähme könnte man selbstverständlich auch ein halbvolles Feuerzeug ganz auffüllen, aber man würde die andere Hälfte verlieren.
