Yesterday I met the director from the cigar-factory La Corona, Habana, Rodi M. Valdés. His factory produces famous brands like Cuaba, Hoyo de Monterrey, Romeo y Julieta, Por Larrañaga, Punch, Saint Luis Rey, San Cristobal and some Montecristos. It’s one of the largest cigar-factories in Cuba with approx. 700 employees.

I smoked with him a brand new Hoyo de Monterrey – Le Hoyo de San Juan. The first batch of this cigar has produced and was shipped to Habanos S.A. They sent them now to the first distributors. In Switzerland it should be on the market within one / two weeks. I really like this cigar. It’s with a creamy, complex smoke and is very smooth.

I was happy to have my girlfriend Yacqui with me. She was the translator between him and me. So I had the chance to ask a lot and got a lot of answers. It was very interesting for me. At the end I bought two boxes of Punch Poderosos Edición Regional Suiza 2009 and four boxes of the discontinued Cuaba Diademas. He signed me these as a nice memory from our smoke.

Gestern habe ich den Direktor der Zigarrenfabrik La Corona, Habana, Rodi M. Valdés getroffen. Seine Fabrik produziert so bekannte Marken wie Cuaba, Hoyo de Monterrey, Romeo y Julieta, Por Larrañaga, Punch, Saint Luis Rey, San Cristobal und einige Montecristos. Sie ist eine der grössten Zigarrenfabriken von Kuba mit ca. 700 Mitarbeitern.

I rauchte mit ihm die neue Hoyo de Monterrey – Le Hoyo de San Juan. Die erste Charge dieser Zigarre ist fertig produziert und wurde an die Habanos S.A. versandt. Diese verteilt sie nun an die ersten Distributoren. In der Schweiz sollten sie innerhalb einer bis zwei Wochen im Handel erhältlich sein. Ich mag diese Zigarre sehr. Sie hat einen cremigen, komplexen Rauch und ist sehr ausgeglichen.

Ich war froh meine Freundin Yacqui dabei zu haben. Sie fungierte als Dolmetscherin zwischen ihm und mir. Damit hatte ich die Gelegenheit viel zu fragen und viel beantwortet zu bekommen. Es war sehr interessant für mich. Am Ende kaufte ich zwei Kisten Punch Poderosos Edición Regional Suiza 2009 und vier Kisten der nicht mehr hergestellten Cuaba Diademas. Er hat mir diese, als Erinnerung an unseren gemeinsamen Smoke, mit seiner Unterschrift versehen.
