A Lafite Rothschild 1961 and cigars

An afternoon with friends: First a Lafite Rothschild 1961 (my and my colleague’s vintage). Opening it was a delicate affair. The cork was very shaky as it had never been recorked. But the fiddling and decanting were worth it. It was wonderful to drink. Fragile aromas, somewhat medicinal, long finish. It remained stable over the entire drinking period and even gained a little with the air, which is by no means a matter of course for a wine of this age.
For dessert, we had a Vegas Robaina Unicos 2000 from a box signed by Don Alejandro and a Monte 2 from 2012. It was a successful and entertaining afternoon with great conversation and lots of enjoyment.

Ein Nachmittag mit Freunden: Zuerst ein Lafite Rothschild 1961 (mein und des Kollegen Jahrgang). Ihn zu öffnen war eine delikate Sache. Der Korken war sehr morsch, da er nie rekorkt wurde. Aber die Fummelei und das dekantieren haben sich gelohnt. Er war wunderbar zu trrinken. Fragile Aromen, etwas medizinal, langer Abgang. Er hielt sich über ich die gesamte Trinkdauer stabil und gewann durch die Luft sogar noch etwas, was durchaus nicht selbstverständlich für ein Wein dieses Alters ist.
Zum Dessert gab es eine Vegas Robaina Unicos 2000, aus einer von Don Alejandro signierten Kiste und eine Monte 2 aus 2012. Das war ein gelungener und kurzweiliger Nachmittag mit tollen Gesprächen und viel Genuss.

This week was in the sign of CoLa.

Not the Cola you may think like Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola, or if you stay in Cuba TuKola. CoLa in this case stands for Cohiba and Lafite Rothschild. Frequent readers know I like of course cigars and also wine. My personal reference points are Cuba for tobacco and Bordeaux for wines. This week was perfect for both. I bought three bottles of Lafite Rothschild 1961. It was impossible to resist, because 1961 it my year of birth. The other part was a Cohiba Silglo VI, Gran Reserva Cosecha 2003. The box is 0663 form 5000 produced boxes. It’s very difficult to find it on the market, for a reasonable price. Thanks to Michael, who has supported me to get it.

Diese Woche war im Zeichen von CoLa.

Nicht das Cola, dass Sie vielleicht denken mögen, wie Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola, oder wenn sie in Kuba sind TuKola. CoLa in diesem Fall bedeutet Cohiba und Lafite Rothschild. Regelmässige Leser meines Blogs wissen, ich liebe selbstverständlich Zigarren und ebenso Wein. Meine persönlichen Referenzpunkte sind Kuba für Tabak und Bordeaux für Wein. Diese Woche war für beides perfekt. Ich kaufte drei Flaschen Lafite Rothschild 1961. Ich konnte nicht widerstehen, weil 1961 mein Geburtsjahr ist. Der andere Teil war eine Kiste Cohiba Siglo VI, Gran Reserva Cosecha 2003. Die Kiste hat die Nummer 0663 von 5000 produzierten Kisten. Es ist sehr schwierig diese für einen vernünftigen Preis auf dem Markt zu finden. Danke an Michael, der mir geholfen hat diese zu bekommen.

Because I have a huge bunch of work at the moment, there is a lack of time to write for my cigar-blog. I hope this changes the next few weeks, as I have lowered my stock of work significantly. I have implemented a brand new firewall-concept for my company and extended it to my home. It’s now fully virtualized and as a huge fan of IoT (The Internet of Things) I connected all kind of things to my company / private cloud to control them remotely. The example here is not brand new – the Cellar Cam was existing for years, but it shows something related for enjoyment and with this it fits into this blog. Of course are my humidors, temperature- and humidity-controls also connected to the cloud, but at the moment not for a public-access.
You can play with the webcam of my wine cellar, move around and ‘chose a good wine’, to drink with me if we met us in my cigar-lounge.

Weil ich momentan extrem viel Arbeit habe, besteht ein Mangel an Zeit um in meinem Zigarrenblog zu schreiben. Ich hoffe dies ändert in den nächsten Wochen, da ich den Stapel an Arbeit signifikant verleinert habe. Ich habe ein brandneues Firewall-Konzept für meine Firma umgesetz und es auch für zu Hause erweitert. Es ist nun voll virtualisiert und als grosser Fan des IoT (Das Internet der Dinge) habe ich diverse Dinge in meiner Firmen / Privaten Cloud verbunden um sie aus der Ferne zu kontrollieren und zu bedienen. Das gezeigte Beispiel ist nicht brandneu – die Cellar Cam existiert schon seit Jahren, aber es zeigt etwas, das mit Genuss verbunden ist und damit in diesen Blog passt. Natürlich sind auch meine Humidore, Temperatur- und Luftfeuchtigkeitskontrollen mit der Cloud verbunden, aber im Moment sind diese nicht für den öffentlichen Zugriff gedacht.
Sie können mit der Webcam meines Weinkellers sich herumbewegen und ‘einen guten Wein aussuchen’, um diesen mit mir zu trinken, falls wir uns einmal in meiner Zigarren-Lounge treffen.

If there is no light in the cellar you can turn the camera’s infrared light on. For this you have to open the ‘Control Panel’, who arieses at the left side. Klick on ‘IR light on’ and the darknes isn’t dark anymore.

Wenn kein Licht im Weinkeller an ist, können sie Infrarot-Licht aktivieren. Dazu öffnen Sie das ‘Control Panel’, welches auf der linken Seite erscheint. Mit anklicken von ‘IR light on’ ist die Dunkelheit nicht mehr dunkel.
