This humidor was issued by Habanos S.A. in 2011. The edition is 350 pieces worldwide. Each humidor has an individual serial number. This makes these humidors from the annual series, Réplica Humidor Antiguo, rare and sought-after collector’s items.

The humidor contains 50 Maravillas No1 cigars, 55 ring gauge x 182 mm in length.

Cigar rings have always fascinated me, even as a child. I collected them back then, but they didn’t survive until I was a full-grown aficionado. At some point I started keeping them again, as my personal register of sins, so to speak. However, I wasn’t always consistent. Sometimes I damaged them when taking them off, other times I forgot them in the breast pocket of my shirt, where they were crushed and the washing machine did the rest. Nevertheless, there have been many over the years and I am pleased to dedicate my little stop-motion movie ‘just a few of my cuban cigar sins’ to them as a thank you for the wonderful hours of enjoyment we spent together.

…and by the way, in good old movie tradition, there is an ‘Easter egg’ hidden in the movie – who can find it?

Zigarrenringe haben mich schon als Kind immer fasziniert. Ich habe sie schon damals gesammelt, doch haben sie die Zeit bis ich ein ausgewachsener Aficionado war nicht überlebt. Irgendwann habe ich wieder damit angefangen sie aufzubewahren, sozusagen als mein persönliches Sündenregister. Jedoch war ich nicht immer konsequent. Manchmal habe ich sie beim abmontieren beschädigt, dann wieder Mal in der Brusttasche des Hemdes vergessen, wo sie zerquetscht wurden und ihnen die Waschmaschine danach den Rest gab. Trotzdem sind es über die Jahre viele geworden und es freut mich ihnen meinen kleinen StopMotion Film ‘just a few of my cuban cigar sins’ zu widmen als Dank für die schönen genüsslichen Stunden, die wir zusammen verbracht haben.

…und übrigens ist, in guter alter Film-Tradition, ein ‘Easter egg’ im Film versteckt – wer findet’s?

The first new cigar in the Siwss market for this year is the Hoyo de Monterrey – Hermosos No.4 – Añejados. It’s the 3th Añejados, after the last year release of the Romeo y Julieta Pirámides and the Montecristo Churchill.
The Hoyo de Monterrey is named Hermosos No.4. It has the dimensions: Ring 48 and lenght 12.7 cm. It comes in boxes of 25 pieces, for a price of CHF 425.–, the price announced for Germany ist € 325.–. In Germany the cigar should be available at the end of January 2016.
The boxdcodes I received are MBR FEB 07 and TBS FEB 07.

Die erste neue Zigarre im Schweizer Markt für dieses Jahr, ist die Hoyo de Monterrey – Hermosos No.4 – Añejados. Es ist die dritte Añejados, nach der letztjährigen Veröffentlichung der Romeo y Julieta Pirámides und der Montecristo Churchill.
Die Hoyo de Monterrey trägt den Namen Hermosos No.4. Sie hat die Dimensionen: Ring 48 und Länge 12.7 cm. Sie kommt in Kistchen mit 25 Stück, für den Preis von CHF 425.–. Der angekündigte Preis für Deutschland ist € 325.–. In Deutschland sollte die Zigarre Ende Januar 2016 erhältlich sein.
Der BoxCode meiner Kisten ist MBR FEB 07 und TBS FEB 07.

Meanwhile I smoked the Hoyo de Monterrey – Le Hoyo de San Juan six times, during differnt daytimes. Two of them were pre-production samples, four of them from different boxes of the released cigar. All boxdates are EML JUL14.
The dimension of the cigar is: Type Geniales, ring 54, lenght 149.2mm. The tobacco is from the region of San Juan y Martinez. The price for a slide lid box of 25 cigars is CHF 445.-.

Mittlerweile habe ich die Hoyo de Monterrey – Le Hoyo de San Juan sechs mal, zu verschiedenen Tageszeiten, geraucht. Zwei davon waren Muster aus der Vorproduktion, vier waren aus verschiedenen Kisten der auf dem Markt erhältlichen Zigarre. Alle Verpackungsdaten sind EML JUL14.
Die Dimension der Zigarre ist: Format Geniales, Ring 54, Länge 149.2mm. Der Tabak kommt aus der Region San Juan y Martinez. Der Preis einer 25er Zigarren-Kiste mit Schiebedeckel ist CHF 445.-.

Yesterday I bought additional boxes from the Hoyo de Monterrey – Le Hoyo de San Juan. As I met Rodi M. Valdés, Director General, of the La Corona cigarfactory in Havana again, he signed me seven boxes, with the confirmation, they are from the first production / first market release.
Two of them have an additional dedication ‘For my beloved son…’ at one side, beceause the release date is at his birthday. At his 18th birthday he gets these and with a little bit of luck we smoke one together.

Gestern kaufte ich zusätzliche Kisten der Hoyo de Monterrey – Le Hoyo de San Juan. Da ich Rodi M. Valdés, Director General, der La Corona Zigarrenfabrik in Havanna erneut traf, signierte er mir die sieben Kisten mit der Bestätigung, dass sie aus der ersten Produktion / der ersten Markteinführung stammen.
Zwei von ihnen haben, auf der Seite, eine zusätzliche Widmung ‘Für meinen geliebten Sohn…’, weil das Veröffentlichungsdatum seinem Geburtstag entspricht. An seinem 18. Geburtstag bekommt er diese und mit ein bisschen Glück rauchen wir eine zusammen.

The cigar has a middle-brown , good quality wrapper. It’s tends more to flat than oily. In the cold draw it tastes like gingerbread, fig and has a huge sweetnes. The drawing resistance is perfect.

Die Zigarre hat ein mittelbraunes Deckblatt von guter Qualität. Es tendiert eher zu matt denn ölig. Im Kaltzug schmeckt sie nach Lebkuchen, Feigen und besitzt eine starke Süsse. Der Zugwiderstand ist perfekt.

The first puff presents a voluminous smoke with a huge sweetnes and it’s creamy / buttered. It’s a light cigar. After the first puff the cigar gets closed in the falvour. This could be expected as the boxdate is JUL14.

Der erste Zug präsentiert einen voluminösen Rauch mit einer starken Süsse und cremigkeit / buttrigkeit: Nach dem ersten Zug verschliesst sich die Zigarre im Aroma. Dies war zu erwarten, da das Verpackungsdatum JUL14 ist.

The ash is gray-white and compact. It tastes like a mix of woods and hints of gras. Ammonia influences the taste in the first third. The burn is inconsistent and has to be fixed with the lighter.

Die Asche ist grau-weiss und kompakt. Sie schmeckt nach Hölzermischung und Spuren von Gras. Ammoniak beeinflusst das Aroma im ersten Drittel. Der Abbrand ist inkonsistent und muss mit dem Feuerzeug korrigiert werden.

The second third: Grassy, grassy, grassy and some mix of woods. the sweetnes comes back, hints of white pepper. The burn is inconsistent and has to be fixed with the lighter again.

In the last third it gets stronger. The sweetnes is present. The flavour is covered. It’s a little bit adstringent now.

Summary:

The two pre production cigars were full of aroma. The market released cigars are very sealed. The cigar has to be stored for some time to develop their full potential. When it develops like the pre-production examples it will be a great smoke indeed.

Die zwei Zigarren vor der Produktion waren voll von Aroma. Die auf den Markt gekommensen Zigarren sind sehr verschlossen. Die Zigarre muss für eine Zeit gelagert werden um ihr volles Potential zu entfalten. Wenn sie sich wie die vorproduktions Muster entwickeln, wird sie ein ein hervorragendes Rauchvergnügen.

Today I got the first two boxes of Hoyo de Monterrey – Le Hoyo de San Juan.

I’m actually preparing the review of this new cigar. I have to smoke it three times before publishing. The first smoke is slightly under stress, because my son has birthday today and I have to leave soon for his party. More follows soon.

The release price is CHF 445.– for a box of 25.

Aktuell bereite ich den Review dieser neuen Zigarre vor. Ich muss sie, vor der Veröffentlichung, drei mal rauchen. Das erste Rauchen erfolgt etwas unter Stress, weil mein Sohn heute Geburtstag hat und ich bald an seine Party gehen muss. Mehr folgt bald.

Yesterday I met the director from the cigar-factory La Corona, Habana, Rodi M. Valdés. His factory produces famous brands like Cuaba, Hoyo de Monterrey, Romeo y Julieta, Por Larrañaga, Punch, Saint Luis Rey, San Cristobal and some Montecristos. It’s one of the largest cigar-factories in Cuba with approx. 700 employees.

I smoked with him a brand new Hoyo de Monterrey – Le Hoyo de San Juan. The first batch of this cigar has produced and was shipped to Habanos S.A. They sent them now to the first distributors. In Switzerland it should be on the market within one / two weeks. I really like this cigar. It’s with a creamy, complex smoke and is very smooth.

I was happy to have my girlfriend Yacqui with me. She was the translator between him and me. So I had the chance to ask a lot and got a lot of answers. It was very interesting for me. At the end I bought two boxes of Punch Poderosos Edición Regional Suiza 2009 and four boxes of the discontinued Cuaba Diademas. He signed me these as a nice memory from our smoke.

Gestern habe ich den Direktor der Zigarrenfabrik La Corona, Habana, Rodi M. Valdés getroffen. Seine Fabrik produziert so bekannte Marken wie Cuaba, Hoyo de Monterrey, Romeo y Julieta, Por Larrañaga, Punch, Saint Luis Rey, San Cristobal und einige Montecristos. Sie ist eine der grössten Zigarrenfabriken von Kuba mit ca. 700 Mitarbeitern.

I rauchte mit ihm die neue Hoyo de Monterrey – Le Hoyo de San Juan. Die erste Charge dieser Zigarre ist fertig produziert und wurde an die Habanos S.A. versandt. Diese verteilt sie nun an die ersten Distributoren. In der Schweiz sollten sie innerhalb einer bis zwei Wochen im Handel erhältlich sein. Ich mag diese Zigarre sehr. Sie hat einen cremigen, komplexen Rauch und ist sehr ausgeglichen.

Ich war froh meine Freundin Yacqui dabei zu haben. Sie fungierte als Dolmetscherin zwischen ihm und mir. Damit hatte ich die Gelegenheit viel zu fragen und viel beantwortet zu bekommen. Es war sehr interessant für mich. Am Ende kaufte ich zwei Kisten Punch Poderosos Edición Regional Suiza 2009 und vier Kisten der nicht mehr hergestellten Cuaba Diademas. Er hat mir diese, als Erinnerung an unseren gemeinsamen Smoke, mit seiner Unterschrift versehen.

The 3th volume of the Colección Habanos was released 2003. It contains 20 cigars of the format Hoyo de Monterrey – Extravaganza, with the size of 187mm and a ring of 50. 500 Books were made worldwide. Therefore it’s really hard to find it today. I had luck to get one, because a famous collector, sold me this very nice collectable.

Die dritte Ausgabe der Colleción Habanos wurde im Jahr 2003 veröffentlicht. Es enthält 20 Zigarren des Formats Hoyo de Monterrey Extravaganza, mit der Länge von 187mm und einem 50er Ringmass. Weltweit wurden 500 Stück gefertigt. Deshalb ist es sehr schwierig heute noch ein Exemplar davon zu finden. Ich hatte Glück, da ein grosser Zigarrensammler und Kenner, mir dieses hübsche Sammlerstück verkauft hat.

I got a Le Hoyo de San Juan, from a very nice guy. It’s a production release from February 2014. This is one of the new upcoming cigars and was introduced at the 16th Festival Of Habano this year. The cigar does not have a band, but it’s from the actual production as it comes into the shops in a short time. The size of the cigar is: ring 54 – lenght ~5.9 inches, fromat Geniales. It will be avaylable in boxes of 10 and 25 pcs.

The cigar has a good quality wrapper, medium brown, compact rolled. After punching the cigar I drag the air through it. Its perfectly rolled and has a perfect drawing resistance, as I like it. There are flavours of wet hay and gingerbread.
.
I light it with a softflame lighter, the first puff gets a milky creamy smoke, tastig like some woods, no bitterness but a little bit astringent. It’s a medium bodied cigar for the first impression.

In the first third flavours are changing to nutty and et the end it has a layer of fine sweetness.
.
In the second third the astringence gets more intense, a strong flavour of a ripe and little bit dryed walnut is present, at the end of this third it turns to black pepper.

In the last third the wrapper burns a short time inconsitent, but at the end it turns back perfectly. It tastes very strong now, there is a sharpness at the lips and the tongue, the flavour is nutty at all.

Ich habe eine Le Hoyo de San Juan von einem freundlichen Kollegen erhalten. Es ist ein Produktions-Release vom Februar 2014. Es ist ein neues Format, welches am diesjährigen 16ten Festival Habano vorgestellt wurde. Diese Zigarre hat noch keine Anilla, kommt aber direkt aus der Produktion vom Februar 2014 und wird bald auf dem Markt erscheinen. Die Grösse ist: Ring 54, Länge~15cm, Format: Geniales. Sie wird in Packungsgrössen von 10 und 25 Stück erhältlich sein.

Das Deckblatt die Zigarre ist von guter Qualität und mittelbraun, die Rollung ist kompakt. Nachdem ich sie angestochen habe, teste ich den Kaltzug. Der Zug ist perfekt, ein leichter Zugwiderstand, so wie ich ihn gerne mag. Die Aromen sind nasses Heu und Lebkuchen.

Ich zünde die Zigarre mit einem Feuerzeug, mit weicher Flamme an, der erste Zug ist milchig, cremig, der Geschmack zeigt Hölzer, keine Bitternis aber ein bisschen adstringierend. Der erste Endruck vermittelt eine mittel-starke Zigarre.

Im ersten Drittel wechselt der Geschmack zu nussig und besitzt am Ende eine leichte Süsse.
.
Im zweiten Drittel wird sie adstringierender und entwickelt ein starkes Aroma nach reifer und etwas trockener Baumnuss. Am Ende dieses Drittels wechselt es nach schwarzem Pfeffer.
.
Im letzten Drittel brennt das Deckblatt leicht inkonsistent, was sich aber wieder korrigiert. Sie schmeckt nun viel stärker, eine Schärfe ist an den Lippen und der Zunge wahrnehmbar. Der Geschmack von Nuss ist immer noch gegenwärtig.
