At the 17th Habanos Festival in Havana I got eight Montecristo 80 Aniversario cigars and two special cutters, branded for this cigar, at the gala dinner.
I smoked it two times and it was both times a fantastic pleasure. This is an absolutely amazing cigar, especially manufactured for the jubilee of the brand Montecristo for existing since 80 years . I’m sure I will buy as many boxes I can get, when it is released.
The cigar has the dimension: Ring 55, lenght 165mm.

Am 17ten Habanos Festival in Havanna bekam ich acht Montecristo 80 Aniversario Zigarren und zwei speziell dafür gestaltete Cutter, am Gala Dinner.
Ich habe sie bisher zwei mal geraucht und es war beide mal ein fantastisches Vergnügen. Dies ist eine absolut aussergewöhnliche Zigarre, extra gefertigt zum Jubiläum zum 80 jährigen Bestehen der Marke Montecristo. Ich bin mir sicher, dass ich so viele Kisten wie möglich davon Kaufen werde, wenn sie offiziell erhältlich ist.
Die Zigarre hat die Abmessungen: Ring 55, Länge 165mm.

The cigar has a dark brown wrapper. The cold draw remembers to ginger bread and spice.

Die Zigarre hat ein dunkelbraunes Deckblatt. Der Kaltzug erinnert an Lebkuchen und Gewürze.

The first puff has a creamy, full bodied smoke. The cigar marks an intense presence with sweetnes and a woody taste.

Der erste Zug hat einen cremigen, Rauch. Die Zigarre markiert eine intensive Präsenz mit Süsse und einem Geschmack nach Hölzern.

The first third shows, this is a great cigar. It has a overwhelming presence, strong, creamy and voluminous smoke, not adstringent, with a broad and deep flavour of wood.

Das erste Drittel zeigt, dies ist eine grosse Zigarre. Sie hat eine überwältigende Präsenz, stark, cremiger und voluminöser Rauch, nicht adstringierend, mit einem breiten und tiefen Aroma nach Hölzern.

The second third is as perfect as the first was. Each puff tells a story. It got a little bit stronger but don’t loose their typicity. A hint of white pepper is now noticable.

Das zweite drittel ist perfekt wie das erste war. Jeder Zug erzählt eine Geschichte. Sie ist etwas stäker verliert aber ihre Typizität nicht. Ein Hauch von weissem Pfeffer ist nun wahrnehmbar.

The last third is so wonderful. Sweetnes, a perfectly balanced strenght. It’s for sure not for beginners – magnificent like Thor’s hammer.

Das letzte Drittel ist so wundervoll. Süsse, eine perfekt balancierte Stärke. Sie ist mit Sicherheit nichts für Anfänger – umwerfend wie Thor’s Hammer.

Normaly I don’t smoke a cigar until ‘the hairs in the nose are burning’. But this cigar is, until it’s end, so incredible good. I was really sad as it has been smoked away. It was for sure one of my best smokes I had this year. This cigar is a reference point and shows the Cubans ability to master their craft. My deepest admiration to the Cuban people who gave me this wonderful experience – 100 points – Viva Cuba!

Normalerweise rauche ich eine Zigarre nicht so weit herunter, dass ‘die Nasenhaare zu kokeln beginnen’. Aber diese Zigarre ist bis zum Ende so unglaublich gut. Ich war richtig traurig, dass sie weggeraucht war. Es war einer meiner besten Zigarren, die ich dieses Jahr hatte. Diese Zigarre ist ein Referenzpunkt und zeigt wie die Kubaner ihr Handwerk beherrschen. Meine tiefste Bewunderung an die Kubaner(innen), welche mir diese wunderbare Erfahrung gaben – 100 Punkte – Viva Cuba!

The Cohiba Robustos Supremos – Edición Limitada 2014 is produced with tobacco from the districts of San Juan y Martinez and San Luis in Vuelta Abajo. It has been aged for at least two years. The cigar has the size of: Ring 58 and length 127mm.

All tasted cigars had a slightly different decker, but within the bandwith ‘mid to deep brown’. The decker is matt and in a good quality.
With the nose flavours like leather and dark woods are noticable. The drawresistance is a little bit to light for me.
If the cigar touches wet lips a strong sharpnes is present. The cold draw presents flavours of woods and dried flowers.

Alle verkosteten Zigarren hatten einen leicht unterschiedlichen Decker, aber waren in der Bandbreite von mittlerem bis stärkerem Braun. Das Deckblatt war matt und von guter Qualität. Der Zugwiderstand ist etwas zu leicht für mich.
In der Nase sind Gerüche von Leder und dunklen Hölzern wahrnehmbar.
Wenn die Zigarre feuchte Lippen berührt, ist eine starke Schärfe präsent. Der Kaltzug präsentiert Aromen von Hölzern und Trockenblumen.

The first puff delivers a distinguished sweetnes. The smoke is full bodied. After aprox. ten puffs it turns to sharpnes and bitterness, herbaceous, very strong – huge aging potential. Very sealed flavour. It’s not adstringent. The draw resistance turns to perfect in the first third.

Der erste Zug liefert eine edle Süsse. Der Rauch hat einen vollen Körper. Nach ungefähr zehn Zügen dreht sie in die Schärfe und Bitternis, krautig, sehr stark – grosses Alterungspotential. Sehr versiegelte Aromatik. Sie ist nicht adstringierend. Der Zug ändert im ersten Drittel zu perfekt hin.

.The second third presents as main taste a strong Darjeeling flavour. My tongue is meanwhile totally saturated. There is no more any possibility to resolve fine nuances of aromas. The cigar is very strong and overloads my senses.

Das zweite Drittel präsentiert als Hauptgeschmack ein starkes Darjeeling Aroma. Meine Zunge ist mittlerweile völlig saturiert. Es gibt keine Möglichkeit mehr feine Nuancen von Aromen aufzulösen. Die Zigarre ist sehr stark und überlädt meine Sinne.

Senses out of Order.
This cigar has to be stored for a while. It saturates the senses to much. It’s only an intellectual, but not a hedonistic joy to smoke it. It remembers me to an equal situation with a Chãteau Cos d’Estournel 1986, as I got it after the en primeur period. As I celebrated arrivage it was not any joy to drink this wine, it was like eating a hand full of fresh appleseeds. After a long time of aging it turned to a genius wine. I espect the same here. This cigar has a huge aging potential but it is not ready to get smoked yet.

Sinne ausser Betrieb.
Diese Zigarre muss für einige Zeit gelagert werden. Sie saturiert die Sinne zu stark. Es is nur ein intellektuelles, aber kein hedonistisches Vergnügen, sie zu rauchen. Sie erinnert mich an eine ähnliche Situation mit einem Chãteau Cos d’Estournel 1986, als ich ihn nach der en Primeur Periode bekam. Als ich Arrivage mit ihm zelebrierte war es kein Genuss diesen Wein zu trinken. Es war wie wenn man eine Handvoll frischer Apfelkerne isst. Nach einer langen Lagerungszeit verwandelte er sich in einen grossen Wein. Ich erwarte dasselbe hier. Diese Zigarre hat ein grosses Alterungspotential, aber sie ist nicht bereit schon jetzt geraucht zu werden.

The cigar is a Hermosos No. 4 with the size: Ring 48, lenght 127mm.
The Picadores existed earlier times and was discontinued in the seventies. It had a smaller ring-size of 44 against the new one with 48.
The band is different from the others, used by the brand. It was used earlier times for cigars like the Por Larrañaga Dunhill Selection No. 32.

Die Zigarre ist eine Hermosos No. 4 mit den Dimensionen: Ring 48, Länge 127mm.
Die Picadores hatte früher existiert und wurde in den Siebzigern eingestellt. Diese hatte eine kleines Ringmass von 44 gegenüber der neuen mit 48.
Die Bauchbinde unterscheidet sich von anderen, die von dieser Marke benutzt werden. Diese wurde früher für Zigarren wie die Por Larrañaga Dunhill Selection No. 32 benutzt.

The cigar has a middle-brown, good quality wrapper. It’s pure flat an has no hits of oil. I punched the cigar. The drawing resistence was different with the three cigars, from a little bit to light to a little bit to hard. But during the smoke they went always to perfect. In the cold-draw it tastes like hay and figs.

Die Zigarre hat ein mittelbraunes Deckblatt von guter Qualität. Es ist matt und besitzt keine Öligkeit. Ich habe die Zigarre mit einer Bohrung versehen. Der Zugwiderstand war bei den drei Exemplaren unterschiedlich, von ein wenig zu leicht bis etwas zu hart. Aber während des Rauchens hat er sich immer perfekt entwickelt. Im Kaltzug schmeckt sie nach Heu und Feigen.

I take a soft-flame lighter to light the cigar. The first puff presents a full smoke with sweetness, some taste of barbecue and old dry walnut. There is some ammonia in the background. This could be expected because all boxdates are from JUN14.

Ich nehme ein Feuerzeug mit weicher Flamme. Der erste Zug präsentiert einen vollen Rauch mit Süsse, etwas Geschmack nach Grilladen und alter trockener Baumnuss. Es befindet sich etwas Ammoniak im Hintergrund. Dies war zu erwarten, da das Verpackungsdatum JUN14 ist.

In the first third, the smoke is sweet and the taste of coffee is present. The cigar closes at the end and is covered with ammonia. The tip of the tongue feels a light sharpness. The ash is gray-white and compact.

Im ersten Drittel ist der Rauch süss und der Geschmack von Kaffee ist präsent. Die Zigarre verschliesst sich gegen Ende und ist mit Ammoniak zugedeckt. Die Zungenspitze fühlt eine leichte Schärfe. Die Asche ist grau-weiss und kompakt.

Nut and coffee penetrate the ammonia falvour, who is responsible for some bitterness. It’s like a heaven full of clouds who opens a window and let the fine aromas passing through. A sweet and creamy smoke is now present. At the end of the second third it develops to a good cigar. It develops some inconsistent burning.

Nuss und Kaffee dringt durch das Ammoniak, welches für einige Bitterniss verantwortlich ist. Es ist wie ein Himmel voller Wolken bei dem sich ein Fenster öffnet und feine Aromen durchlässt. Ein süsser und cremiger Rauch ist nun präsent. Am Ende des zweiten Drittels entwickelt sie sich zu einer guten Zigarre. Sie entwickelt etwas Schiefbrand.

In the last third it gets stronger and a little bit bitter. The creamy and sweet smoke is always present. A hint of white pepper is noticable in the sweet flavour. Now woods are dominating. In spite of ammonia it’s a good smoke until the end.

Im letzten Drittel wird sie stärker und etwas bitter. Die Cremigkeit und Süsse des Rauchs ist immer präsent. Eine Spur von weissem Pfeffer ist wahrnehmbar im süssen Geschmack. Nun dominieren Hölzer. Trotz Ammoniak lässt sie sich gut bis zum Ende rauchen.

Summary:
This cigar is a very good smoke. For the price of CHF 10.- per cigar it’s absolutely fantastic! The cigar itself is light to medium in it’s strenght, but at the moment covered by ammonia. For three to six month out of the box, stored in a humidor, or after twelve to eighteen months stored in the box, it shold be good enjoyable . If the ammonia is gone you will have a good cigar for a reasonable price.

Zusammenfassung:
Diese Zigarre ist sehr gut. Der Preis von CHF 10.- pro Zigarre ist absolut hervorragend! Die Zigarre selbst ist leicht bis mittel in der Stärke, aber im Moment mit Ammoniak zugedeckt. Für drei bis sechs Monate ausserhalb der Kiste in einem Humidor gelagert, oder in der Kiste nach zwölf bis achtzehn Monaten, sollte sie gut geniessbar sein. Wenn das Ammoniak verzogen ist wird sie eine gute Zigarre zu einem vernünftigen Preis.

Review of the Bolivar Emperador Edición Regional Rusia

The Bolivar Emperador, Edición Regional Rusia was released for the market in 2011. The production was 2500 boxes, containing ten cigars each. The size of the cigar is: ring 48, lenght 157mm. It’s the only russian Edición Regionales, who was produced until today. I smoked five cigars before the review. Each time it was from a superb quality. The described one was from the box 1553 / 2500, boxdate LEM JUL11.

Die Bolivar Emperador, Edición Regional Rusia wurde 2011 auf den Markt gebracht. Es wurden 2500 Kisten à 10 Zigarren produziert. Das Zigarrenformat beträgt: Ring 48, Länge 157mm. Dies ist die einzige russische Edición Regionales welche bis dato produziert wurde. Ich hatte vor dem Review die Zigarre schon fünf mal geraucht. Jedes mal war sie von hervorragender Qualität.Das beschriebene Exemplar stammt aus der Kiste 1553 / 2500, boxdate LEM JUL11.

The cigar has a light brown, good quality wrapper. It’s a little bit oily and veined. In the cold draw it tastes like hay and liquorice. The drawing resistance is perfect.

Die Zigarre hat ein hellbraunes Deckblatt guter Qualität. Es ist leicht ölig und leicht geädert. Im Kaltzug schmeckt sie nach Heu und Süssholz. Der Zugwiderstand ist perfekt.

. Bolivar Emperador - Edición Regionales Rusia

The first puff disclosed a teasingly sweetness, roasting flavour and walnut in a long finish. The flavour is wide-ranging and three-dimensional. The finish is dry, like a wine loaded with tannin.The cigar is very strong. It’s the old Bolivar style, who pleases very much. If you take one of last year released Bolivar’s, like the Presidentes ER Suiza or the LCDH Libertador, these cigars are abolutely lightly against the Emperador.

Der erste Zug offenbart eine betörende herrliche Süsse, Röstaromen und Walnuss in einem langen Abgang. Das Aroma ist sehr breit gefächert und dreidimensional. Der Abgang ist trocken, wie bei einem mit Tannin befrachteten Wein. Die Zigarre ist sehr kräftig. Es ist der alte Bolivar Stil, der hier sehr gefällt. Wenn man die letztjährig speziell erschienen Bolivar’s nimmt, wie die Presidentes ER Suiza, oder die LCDH Libertador, so sind diese absolut leicht gegen die Emperador.

. The ash is very compact and gray-white. The sweetness from the beginning disappears. In the first third it presents a good strenght – a classic Cuban cigar like it should be.

Die Asche ist sehr kompakt und grau-weiss.Die anfängliche Süsse ist verschwunden. Sie präsentiert sich im ersten Drittel schon recht kräftig – eine klassische kubanische Zigarre, wie sie sein sollte.

In the second third it burns a little bit skew, but doesn’t need a correction at the moment. The flavour shows wood, nut and white pepper in the finish. The cigar is strong and has a dry smoke. At the end of the second third, a small bitterness and some hints of liauorice appears. I have to correct the skew in burning a little bit.

Im zweiten Drittel brennt sie leicht schräg ab, bedarf aber keiner Korrektur. Das Aroma zeigt Hölzer, Nuss und weisser Pfeffer im Abgang. Die Zigarre ist kräftig und besitzt einen trockenen Rauch. Am Ende des zweitten Drittels stellt sich etwas Bitternis und Spuren von Lakritze ein. Eine leichte Korrektur des Schiefbrandes wird nötig.

The last third the cigar gains strenght. The aroma is constant, licquorice, strong roasting flavours, nutty, earth and only a small bitterness. This is a steady smokers experience until the end. After the smoke a very pleasant flavour echoes in the palate.

The cigar is a real enjoyment for the experienced aficionado. For a beginner it is not the best choice.

Das letzte Drittel lässt die Zigarre nochmals kräftiger werden. Das Aroma ist konstant, Süssholz, kräftige Röstaromen, Nussigkeit, Erde, nur leichte Bitternis. Ein konstantes, schönes Raucherlebnis bis zum Schluss. Nach dem Rauchen kling im Gaumen ein sehr angenehmes Aroma nach.

Die Zigarre ist für den erfahrenen Aficionado ein Genuss. Für den Anfänger ist sie eher weniger geeignet.

Last Friday I bought, from Urs Portmann / Kreuzlingen, three boxes of the newly released Vegueros cigars, called, Entretiempos, Mañanitas and Tapados. The market-release of the cigar was anounced this week by the official Swiss importer Intertabak.

The cigar has a good quality wrapper, the colour is medium brown. It is light rolled and has a light drawing resistance. There are flavours of young walnuts and musty hay.

Die Zigarre hat ein Deckblatt guter Qualität, die Farbe ist mittelbraun. Sie ist leicht gerollt und besitzt einen leichten Zugwiderstand. Der Kaltzug zeigt Aromen von junger Walnuss und dumpfem Heu.

The very first impression is a creamy smoke with a good volume, a nice sweetnes, a little bit of dried flowers, very mildly in the taste. There are some hints of dusty, freshly sanded balsawood.

Der erste Eindruck ist ein cremiger Rauch mit gutem Volumen. Eine hübsche Süsse, ein klein wenig Trockenblumen, sehr zurückhaltend im Geschmack. Es sind Spuren von frisch geschliffenem Balsaholz-Staub vorhanden.

The sweetness increases, at the same time there is some sharpness. The characteristic is very mildly again, hints of white pepper, a little bit of nut, inconsitent burning.

Die Süsse nimmt zu, gleichzeitig ist etwas Schärfe vorhanden. Die Charakteristik ist nach wie vor sehr mild, Spuren von weissem Pfeffer, ein klein wenig Nuss, inkonsistenter Abbrand.
.The cigar is to lightly for me – it’s like air from the Alps.

The cigar has a good quality wrapper, the colour is light brown. It is perfectly rolled and has a perfect drawing resistance, like I prefer. There are flavours of young walnuts and hay.

Die Zigarre hat ein Deckblatt guter Qualität, die Farbe ist hellbraun. Sie ist perfekt gerollt und besitzt einen perfekten Zugwiderstand, wie ich ihn mag. Der Kaltzug zeigt Aromen von junger Walnuss und Heu.
.The first drag presented a huge sweetness, nutty and gras flavours, a little bit of bitterness in the finish. Adstringent after approx. 20 puffs, it goes to a little bit of sharpness. Hints of gras, the sweetness turns into the background, it burns a little bit crooked.

Der erste Zug präsentiert eine starke Süsse, nussig und grasig, eine kleine Bitterniss im Abgang. Adstringierend nach ca. 20 Zügen, ein klein wenig Schärfe entwickelnd. Spuren von Gras, die Süsse tritt in den Hintergrund. Sie brennt etwas schräg.

Bitter-sweet, but very pleasant. A little bit of sharpness at the tongue, ammonia penetrates the nice, very mildly taste.

Bitter-süss, aber sehr angenehm. Eine leichte Schärfe auf der Zunge, eine Ammoniaknote dringt durch das schöne, sehr milde Aroma.

.The first puffs shows a little bit of nuts and hay. Very mildly in the taste, ammonia penetrates the flavours, a little sharpness could be noticed.

Die ersten Züge zeigen etwas Nuss- und Heu-Aromen. Sehr verhaltene Aromatik. Ammoniak schlägt durch, eine leichte Schärfe ist spürbar.
.The ammonia is absolutely dominating the cigar now, covers all the flavours from the beginning.

The cigars are very young with boxdates from MAR14 / ABR14. The Mañanita was the best for me, the Entretiempos was to mildly and the Tapados was covered with to much ammonia.
The ammonia covers the very fragile flavours of this very light cigars. I tasted each of them three times. There was a variability in the flavour from good to bad. Therefore I published the tasting of the best one of it. I think, with storing them in the humidor for some months, outside the boxes, they could be good cigars for a time to time smoker, or a beginner, who prefers light cigars with low nicotine. The paid price for the quality is in a good ratio. They are definitively not for the advanced aficionado who prefers a full load of flavours and nicotine.

Die Zigarren sind sehr jung, da Boxdate MAR14 / APR14. Die Mañanitas war die beste für mich, die Entretiempos war zu mild und die Tapados war mit zuviel Ammoniak befrachtet.
Das Amoniak überlagert die fragilen Aromen dieser sehr leichten Zigarren. Ich degustierte jede von ihnen drei mal. Dabei konnte ich eine Variabilität in den Aromen von gut bis schlecht feststellen. Die Verkostungs-Notizen wurden von der jeweils besten übernommen. Ich denke mit einer mehrmonatigen Lagerung im Humidor, ausserhalb der Boxen, könnten sie gute Zigarren für den Gelegenheitsraucher und Anfänger, der leichte Zigarren mit wenig Nikotin bevorzugt. Das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis ist in einem guten Verhältnis. Sie sind definitiv nicht für den fortgeschrittenen Aficionado, der starke Aromen und viel Nikotin bevorzugt.

I got a Le Hoyo de San Juan, from a very nice guy. It’s a production release from February 2014. This is one of the new upcoming cigars and was introduced at the 16th Festival Of Habano this year. The cigar does not have a band, but it’s from the actual production as it comes into the shops in a short time. The size of the cigar is: ring 54 – lenght ~5.9 inches, fromat Geniales. It will be avaylable in boxes of 10 and 25 pcs.

The cigar has a good quality wrapper, medium brown, compact rolled. After punching the cigar I drag the air through it. Its perfectly rolled and has a perfect drawing resistance, as I like it. There are flavours of wet hay and gingerbread.

I light it with a softflame lighter, the first puff gets a milky creamy smoke, tastig like some woods, no bitterness but a little bit astringent. It’s a medium bodied cigar for the first impression.

In the first third flavours are changing to nutty and et the end it has a layer of fine sweetness.

In the second third the astringence gets more intense, a strong flavour of a ripe and little bit dryed walnut is present, at the end of this third it turns to black pepper.

In the last third the wrapper burns a short time inconsitent, but at the end it turns back perfectly. It tastes very strong now, there is a sharpness at the lips and the tongue, the flavour is nutty at all.

Ich habe eine Le Hoyo de San Juan von einem freundlichen Kollegen erhalten. Es ist ein Produktions-Release vom Februar 2014. Es ist ein neues Format, welches am diesjährigen 16ten Festival Habano vorgestellt wurde. Diese Zigarre hat noch keine Anilla, kommt aber direkt aus der Produktion vom Februar 2014 und wird bald auf dem Markt erscheinen. Die Grösse ist: Ring 54, Länge~15cm, Format: Geniales. Sie wird in Packungsgrössen von 10 und 25 Stück erhältlich sein.

Das Deckblatt die Zigarre ist von guter Qualität und mittelbraun, die Rollung ist kompakt. Nachdem ich sie angestochen habe, teste ich den Kaltzug. Der Zug ist perfekt, ein leichter Zugwiderstand, so wie ich ihn gerne mag. Die Aromen sind nasses Heu und Lebkuchen.

Ich zünde die Zigarre mit einem Feuerzeug, mit weicher Flamme an, der erste Zug ist milchig, cremig, der Geschmack zeigt Hölzer, keine Bitternis aber ein bisschen adstringierend. Der erste Endruck vermittelt eine mittel-starke Zigarre.

Im ersten Drittel wechselt der Geschmack zu nussig und besitzt am Ende eine leichte Süsse.

Im zweiten Drittel wird sie adstringierender und entwickelt ein starkes Aroma nach reifer und etwas trockener Baumnuss. Am Ende dieses Drittels wechselt es nach schwarzem Pfeffer.

Im letzten Drittel brennt das Deckblatt leicht inkonsistent, was sich aber wieder korrigiert. Sie schmeckt nun viel stärker, eine Schärfe ist an den Lippen und der Zunge wahrnehmbar. Der Geschmack von Nuss ist immer noch gegenwärtig.
